Tonle Sap Lake – Stories of Resilience

“Tonle Sap Lake – Stories of Resilience” tells the story of the women and children of its floating villages, who act as agents of change. Each frame tells a story about humanity, resilience, and the delicate balance between mankind and nature, while also evoking the reminiscence of a colonial past.

This extraordinary lake, Southeast Asia's largest, cradles a paradox – its floodplain supports one of the most productive freshwater fisheries while harboring some of Cambodia's most economically challenged inhabitants. Yet, it also faces an uncertain future due to overfishing, untreated sewage, climate change, and the impact of upstream dams.

Designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1997, Tonle Sap Lake stands as both a testament to nature's marvels and a stark reminder of our shared responsibility.

“Tonle Sap Lake – Stories of Resilience” was exhibited at The Jung Center in Houston, TX as part of the 2024 Group Exhibition “Empathy Unveiled”.
